I had been doing photography and graphic arts about 22 years before AI. My first exposure to AI was during the NFT craze of 2019-2021 where I encountered artists using primitive generations from AI to produce NFT images. I believed that it was beyond my technical skills, but I was always a fan of highly detailed and surreal art.
After the launch of Chat GPT, I started using it and became deeply aware that a tensor based AI was unlike any form of program I have ever interacted with before. Because of my artistic background I became involved in the image generation side of AI with systems like Mid-Journey and Stable Diffusion. I curated a gallery of over 100,000 AI images and produced around 8000 personally (final works). I also immersed myself in the different frontier models on a daily basis to understand the psychology behind AI.
Generative Art is so new, most people don't accept it as an 'art form'. The reception parallels the start of photography. Back then, the creation of a (painted) portrait was a long and laborious process, taking several hours of modeling so a trained artisan could produce a final print. So when photography offered to do the same portrait with a single click and a flash, and then you were done. The process was so different people had a hard time respecting photography as a 'real' art.
Paining a portrait and Photography requires different skills, but there are skills involved with photography. Understanding image composition, lighting and how to tell a story with an image is the difference between a photographer and someone who owns the equipment.
Similarly when you see the work from an Artist who uses Image generation, you are looking at hours of prompt iterating, tweaks back end weigh parameters by using LORAs, selecting one from a hundred generations, and then post process work involving in painting or out painting edits to the final work.
These are not just random AI generations. They are the work of true artists—passionate, inspired individuals who iterated thousands of times to capture something truly amazing. These are the pieces I find inspirational, the ones that hold the spirit of this project. What you are looking at is not just the output of an algorithm, but the labor of a human soul using AI to convey something of deep and profound meaning.
As an artist I sincerely hope you enjoyed the above glimpse into my soul.
As a realist, I understand not every piece may have been to your liking. That is ok too. I enjoyed the process of creation and in that it was rewarding enough. The point of this gallery isn't about what I did with AI as much as it is about what you are going to do. If you passionately hate some of my pieces, AWESOME... go make something better, something which expresses your soul. I would love to see what you come up with. Right now there are many artists, far more skilled than myself, using AI to create pictures, songs, software, movies, or literary works. This is the beginning of the 'Age of the Artist' where lack of money, time, or skill cannot stop you. Your only limit is your imagination... So go ahead, show me what you got. Impress me... impress the world with your imagination.
